How We Select Projects
Application Information
If you would like to apply to become a project of Tides Canada Initiatives, please fill out the online application.
The next review date for new applications is February 01, 2012. Should your project be selected for consideration we will be in touch with you 3-4 weeks after this date.
All applications will be acknowledged and applicants will be informed of the board’s decision.
Things we consider
Your application to become a Tides Canada project is evaluated based on four main screening criteria:
- Will your project create an impact that furthers our program area goals?
- Do your activities have a charitable purpose?
- Do you have committed funding and a solid resource development plan?
- Do you have strong leadership and a committed and capable team?
Who can apply?
- individuals, groups, community coalitions, or international organizations working in Canada
- organizations, initiatives or coalitions that are unincorporated entities without legal status in Canada
- organizations committed to creating long-term benefits. Tides Canada does not take on one-time events such as charity concerts or conferences
- staffed projects with a budget of at least $100,000 in their first year
Will your activities advance Tides Canada’s charitable purpose and mission?
Tides Canada actively seeks initiatives that advance our charitable purposes and mission. Our projects and programs are dedicated to:
- climate and energy solutions
- environmental conservation
- food
- leadership development and capacity building
- social inclusion and civic engagement
- water and oceans
The description of your activities in the application should address how your activities advance Tides Canada’s charitable mission and contribute to our program goals.
Do you have committed funding and the ability and capacity to raise funds and other resources necessary to operate the project?
Tides Canada projects are required to raise their own funds to cover program and project expenses. The budget section of the application asks that you demonstrate where funding is coming from and how much of your funding is in place.
If you do not have committed funding, you will need to have a well-developed fundraising plan in place.
Do you have the leadership capacity to carry out your program activities?
Tides Canada will assess the leadership of your initiative to ensure that the required skills, expertise, and experience are in place to enable you to carry out your charitable activities.
