Our Projects
Tides Canada projects are some of the most innovative charitable initiatives in Canada and on the planet. They run sustainable and strategic campaigns that hold great potential for lasting change.
Our projects are led by individuals, coalitions, and international organizations working in Canada and focus on the following program areas.

Climate and Energy Solutions
Canadian Youth Climate Coalition
Canadian Youth Climate Coalition is composed of leading youth organizations and individuals from across Canada that tackle the biggest challenge of our times, the emerging climate crisis. Its goal is to create education and outreach tools and events to motivate young people to be part of the solution.
Reduce the Juice (RTJ) is a youth-led climate change organization that facilitates projects in Ontario designed to reduce greenhouses gas emissions while empowering youth to become agents of change.
Tides Canada Energy Initiative
The Tides Canada Energy Initiative brings together a diverse array of mainstream organizations, businesses and others to build support for a bold and credible vision of a near-zero-carbon future.
Environmental Conservation
Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement Secretariat
The Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement Secretariat is responsible for overseeing and proving project management, logistical, convening, communications, government relations and technical support to the joint implementation of the Canadian Boreal Forest Agreement.
ForestEthics Canada works to protect endangered forests by transforming the paper and wood industries in North America and by supporting forest communities in the development of conservation-based economies. The project also focuses on climate initiatives in several ways: mitigating dirty energy projects, encouraging resource conservation and use of clean energy sources, and protection of existing resources that contribute to a healthy climate.
The Headwaters Initiative Project works to create a more informed and connected community engaged in the conservation of some of British Columbia’s great rivers. Its goal is to expand and empower the network of individuals and organizations concerned about the impacts of proposed developments – particularly in relation to energy and salmon ecosystems.
Island Conservation Canada is a science-driven project dedicated to preventing extinctions and protecting natural ecological and evolutionary processes on islands. The project integrates and applies research, priority setting, education, capacity building, conservation action, monitoring and evaluation.
Organizing for Change (OFC) is a project of some of BC’s leading environmental groups. Together, they develop more robust, focused and effective approaches to advancing environmental policy initiatives in British Columbia.
Pacific Wild works to achieve long-term environmental protection for marine and terrestrial wildlife on Canada’s north Pacific coast. Using field research, web-based educational tools and other broad-based education and community outreach projects. Pacific Wild collaborates with existing environmental groups to raise awareness about the region.
The Rainforest Solutions Project is a joint initiative of ForestEthics, Greenpeace Canada, and Sierra Club of BC. It promotes conservation options and economic alternatives to industrial logging on British Columbia’s Central Coast, North Coast and Haida Gwaii.
Rivers Without Borders works with communities, scientists, First Nations, conservation allies and others to encourage the adoption of long-term conservation-based planning to protect the diversity and abundance of fish and wildlife species and their habitat in the transboundary watersheds of Canada and southeast Alaska.
Food
Canadian Biotechnology Action Network (CBAN)
CBAN promotes food sovereignty and democratic decision-making on science and technology issues, genetic engineering in particular, in order to protect the integrity of the environment, health, food, and the livelihoods of people in Canada and around the world.
Farms at Work promotes healthy and active farmlands within the Kawartha Region in Ontario. Farms at Work’s main goals are to keep regional farms in active production, using good stewardship and best management practices.
Not Far From The Tree puts Toronto fruit to good use by picking and sharing the bounty. When a homeowner can’t keep up with the abundant harvest produced by their tree, they let Not Far From The Tree know and they mobilize our volunteers to pick the bounty.
Sustain Ontario – The Alliance for Healthy Food and Farming
Sustain Ontario is a multi-stakeholder initiative whose mission is to build and strengthen a just, accessible, and sustainable local food system in Ontario.
Leadership Development and Capacity Building
ArtBridges strives to alleviate poverty by bridging and advocating for people who want to make a difference through community arts in under-resourced communities.
Capacity Waterloo Region works to enhance the effectiveness and capacity of non-profit organizations in the Waterloo, Ontario region through peer-to-peer management support, an ‘Executive Director-in-Residence’ program, and a board training and development program.
Give Green Canada helps environmental and conservation organizations (eNGO’s) maximize revenue with a focus on green legacies by providing online tools and training.
The Inner Activist is a program designed to help change makers, social entrepreneurs, leaders and activists be radically more effective in their life-serving work. The curriculum was developed by prominent activists, trainers and educators from six different personal development organizations that include: Learning as Leadership, The Haven Institute, Non Violent Communication, The Process Institute, The Work That Reconnects and Anima Leadership.
Reel Youth encourages and empowers young people through the medium of film. By facilitating video-making workshops for youth, Reel Youth empowers young people to create short films that address the concerns and changes they envision for a just and sustainable world.
Social Venture Partners Toronto
SVP Toronto is a unique partnership that brings together a broad group of professionals to invest time and money in the most pressing challenges facing the city. It is based on a proven “venture partnership” model that has attracted more than 2,000 partners in 20 cities across North America.
The Urban Youth Riding Project focuses on developing the life skills of marginalized urban youth through riding and learning about horses. Their goal is for youth to become aware of the natural world while strengthening their empathic skills and building community.
Social Inclusion and Civic Engagement
The Centre for City Ecology works towards affecting the course of Toronto’s development by increasing urban literacy about how the city functions and how citizens and professionals can work together, and by enhancing their effectiveness in collaborating for that purpose.
East Scarborough Storefront is a partnership of more than 35 community groups and social service agencies working together to create a thriving community in the East Scarborough neighbourhood in Ontario.
Frontline Partners with Youth Network (FPYN)
Frontline Partners with Youth Network (FPYN) is a group of bold and dedicated people who work with youth in Toronto. FPYN started when frontline workers came together in 2005 to support each other in dealing with the effects of gun violence.
The Halifax Initiative is a coalition of development, environment, faith-based, human rights and labour organizations working for global economic democracy and justice.
Jane’s Walk is a series of free neighbourhood walking tours that helps put people in touch with their environment and with each other, by bridging social and geographic gaps and creating a space for cities to discover themselves. Jane’s Walk honours the legacy and ideas of urban activist and writer Jane Jacobs who championed the interests of local residents and pedestrians over a car-centered approach to planning.
Scarborough Access Centre is an anti-violence project that works to promote safety and empower women and children fleeing domestic violence by providing a one-stop resource centre with easy access to a range of services.
Toronto Park People advocates for better parks for all of Toronto’s communities by facilitating neighbourhood engagement in their parks, building a network of local community park groups, acting as a watchdog on issues affecting parks, and highlighting the importance of good parks to the social, health, environmental and economic well being of all residents of Toronto.
Water and Oceans
BC Marine Conservation Analysis
BC Marine Conservation Analysis helps advance marine planning initiatives in British Columbia by identifying potential areas of high conservation value. This highly collaborative, science-based analysis involves key stakeholders on the BC coast including First Nations community members and all levels of government.
The Canadian Freshwater Alliance is founded on the notion that people and the environment have the right to healthy waters.
Forum for Leadership on Water (FLOW)
FLOW strives to ensure an effective and sustainable Canada-wide water strategy. FLOW consists of a group of scientists, lawyers, policy experts and former senior government policy advisors who represent environmental organizations, including WWF-Canada, the University of Victoria’s POLIS Project on Ecological Governance, the Soil and Water Conservation Society, Nature Québec and the Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources.
Marine Planning Partnership for the North Pacific Coast (MaPP)
The Marine Planning Partnership for the North Pacific Coast (MaPP) is a collaborative planning process for coastal and marine areas in four sub-regions of B.C. MaPP is a partnership among the Province of British Columbia, the Coastal First Nations-Great Bear Initiative, the North Coast-Skeena First Nations Stewardship Society and the Nanwakolas Council.
Oceans Initiative Marine Wilderness Project
Oceans Initiative conducts research projects on whales, dolphins and other marine wildlife in British Columbia and around the world.
