Preventing Violence Against Women

The Canadian Women’s Foundation (CWF) more than matched our initial contribution of nearly $50,000, and selected four innovative violence prevention programs in British Columbia as initial grantees.

Project Respect, Victoria Women’s Sexual Assault Centre (Victoria, B.C.)
trains marginalized youth in the isolated coastal community of Bella Coola, B.C. to become mentors on sexuality issues and preventing sexual violence.

Whitevalley Community Resource Centre Society (Lumby, B.C.)
develops curriculum on best practices in violence prevention which addresses sexual relationships, substance abuse, and non-violent methods of resolving conflict for local schools in the North Okanagan region of B.C.

People for a Healthy Community on Gabriola Society (Gabriola Island, B.C.) develops sustainable community supports on Gabriola Island for women experiencing, or at risk of experiencing, violence and develops planned strategies to help women rebuild their lives after experiencing violence.

Respectful Relations, SWOVA Community Development and Research Society (Salt Spring Island, B.C.) is an award-winning program for adolescents in grades 7 to 11 that uses interactive workshops to teach students about preventing and dealing with violence, bullying, racism, homophobia, and similar issues.
