Leaving an unrestricted gift to Tides Canada in your will is a great way to support a wide range of initiatives. Our work is broad and constantly evolving. It includes:

Create your own legacy fund with a bequest
A personalized legacy fund can be set up in your will to take effect upon your death. Many donors choose this option because it gives the most direct say in how grants are made from their fund beyond their lifetime. The bequest you leave to your legacy fund will be a lasting source of support for the causes you care about most.
With a legacy fund, the principal is invested in perpetuity. Grants are made from the earnings, according to the criteria laid out by you during your lifetime.
You can choose to specify a particular charity or charities to support in perpetuity, or define an issue area that is important to you and have Tides Canada seek out the most innovative charities working within that area.
Alternately, you can designate a family member or friend as advisor to your fund, and he or she can remain closely involved, recommending grants to be made from the earnings and partnering with Tides Canada to stay abreast of emerging trends and community needs.
Support a charity’s endowment at Tides Canada
Tides Canada manages a growing number of endowment funds established by registered charities to help them grow long-term, sustainable funding.
Bequests can be directed to those specific funds, or a specialized fund can be created through your will to support a particular charity. If the charity your bequest supports has ceased operations, the purpose outlined for your fund ensures that any contributions will go to a related leading charity.

If it is a residual gift, sample wording would be:
I direct my executor to transfer the rest and residue (or X portion of the residue) of my estate to Tides Canada Foundation – Name of Fund, BN Registration number: 868947797RR0001, 400, 163 W Hastings St., Vancouver, BC V6B 1H5 for its own use absolutely.
