Program Assistant, Jane’s Walk

Toronto, ON | Apply by February 10

Jane’s Walk is a project on Tides Canada’s shared platform. Jane’s Walk is an annual festival of citizen-led walking tours, inspired by author and urbanist Jane Jacobs, that get people to tell stories about their communities, explore their cities, and connect with neighbours. The Jane’s Walk project makes space for every person to observe, reflect, share, question, and collectively reimagine the places in which they live, work and play. In 2016, Jane’s Walks took place in 212 cities around the world! In Toronto alone, there were 225 walks over the course of the three-day festival. Jane’s Walk 2017 takes place on May 5, 6, and 7.

Are you passionate about cities? Are you a natural connector, a dreamer, but also a make things happen kind of person? The Program Assistant supports the implementation of Jane’s Walk programming both here in Toronto and around the world. This person revels in the nuts and bolts of event planning, volunteer management, and grassroots community organizing while keeping one eye on big-picture outcomes and strategy.

The Program Assistant works closely with the Acting Project Director to support festival programming in Toronto and also to support the coordination of festival organizers in cities around the world. The role involves general administrative support (handling invoices, expenses, and logistics), assisting with volunteer management, and helping manage external communications.
