TORONTO — If you want a building to be loved, rally many to design it. If you want to take the elite stigma out of architecture, have young people in one of Toronto’s priority neighbourhoods do the job.
That’s the idea for the new face of the East Scarborough Storefront, a cinder block community centre in what was once a 42 Division substation on Lawrence Ave. E., near Kingston Rd. The cheery yellow paint on the walls can’t disguise the bunker-like feel of the place.
