Get savvy on seafood sustainability
The world’s oceans are so precious because they generate most of the oxygen we breathe, regulate our climate, clean the water we drink, and help feed us. But the health and wealth of our oceans are in jeopardy. World Oceans Day is an opportunity for us to celebrate the ocean and think hard about our impact on oceans worldwide, educate ourselves about the issues, and change our behaviour.
Among the most effective actions you can take to protect our oceans is to buy sustainable ocean-friendly seafood and support Ocean Wise businesses across Canada. By voting with your wallet, you invest in the future of our oceans.
Another way you can support sustainable seafood is telling a friend about Seachoice and Ocean Wise or clicking on the SHARE icon on the left and sharing this post.
But choosing sustainable seafood can be challenging. Should you stop buying those frozen fish fillets or packaged prawns on special at the supermarket? How sustainable is the tuna in your sandwich or weekly sushi dinner?
An excellent resource is Seachoice which was formed by Canada’s leading environmental organizations to make it easy for Canadians make informed choices about our seafood, what we buy, where we buy it, and how to support sustainable fisheries.
