Close encounters with addiction

Posted on Nov 3, 2009

Come and listen to one of Vancouver’s experts on addiction and hear about his work and personal journey working in the Downtown Eastside.

The Hollyhock Foundation along with UBC Continuing Studies are hosting Dr. Gabor Mate as part of their lunch time lecture series at Robson Square.

Dr. Mate works with patients challenged by life-threatening drug addictions, mental illness, Hepatitis C or HIV and, in many cases, all four.

Dr. Mate is a bestselling author whose most recent book, In The Realm of Hungry Ghosts: Close Encounters with Addiction, has been awarded the Hubert Evans Prize for literary non-fiction.

Moving far beyond traditional treatments, Gabor proposes a compassionate approach to helping drug addicts address the void addiction is meant to fill. www.drgabormate.com
