Posted on Dec 22, 2011

Tides Canada is proud to announce that we are one of the founding depositors to Vancity’s ground breaking, newly launched Resilient Capital Program.

This impact-driven program exists at the intersection of financial services and social change. It will invest in social enterprises that often find it difficult to secure conventional finances, allowing them create social change and build resilient communities. Tides Canada will support the program with dedicated long-term Resilient Capital Term Deposits at Vancity.

“The Resilient Capital Program is a great fit for Tides Canada’s mandate – to grow the capital and support the initiatives dedicated to solving the key environmental and social issues of our time” says Ross McMillan, Tides Canada President & CEO.

So far, there is $10.35 million of capital available through the program. Social enterprises that qualify to receive support from the Resilient Capital Program can include non-profits, cooperatives, mission-based for-profit businesses and First Nations’ ventures.

The program is a unique solutions-based project that brings together support from philanthropists, the financial sector and government. At the program launch, Premier Christy Clark remarked “the Resilient Capital Program is an excellent example of what can happen when people put their minds into finding solutions to the social and economic challenges in our communities.”
