Think Big. Give Wisely. - April 16, 2007

On April 4th, Tides Canada welcomed Terry Tamminem, California Gov. Schwarzenegger's environmental advisor and former head of California's Environmental Protection Agency to discuss his book, “Lives Per Gallon: The True Cost of Our Oil Addiction.”

Terry’s terrific presentation focused on the history and costs of humanity’s oil dependence and offered great advice on how we each can reduce our personal energy footprint. Over 120 people attended and the audience was quite engaged with the Q & A discussion that followed. Thanks to those who were able to join us. For those who weren't able to make it, please stay tuned for future Tides Canada events and learning opportunities.

Terry's speech and Q & A are now available on our website: www.tidescanada.org

Tides Canada is encouraging private philanthropy to support innovative programs that address global warming.

Early this week at the Vancouver School Board, we announced our newest climate change initiative. Tides Canada is donating DVDs of Al Gore’s “ An Inconvenient Truth” to all high schools and school boards in British Columbia. Distribution will be courtesy of Novex Couriers www.novex.ca using, where possible, Novex’s clean fleet of hybrid and low-emission vehicles and bicycle courier service.

We believe that BC is the first North American jurisdiction where every secondary school will be given a copy of An Inconvenient Truth. Educators tell us that this film will be an extremely useful resource for dialogue and discussion with their students about climate change and actions they can take to address global warming in our communities.

Have a great weekend and a Happy Earth Day this Sunday April 22nd!
