Senior Associate, Aquaculture Innovation
Catherine Emrick is the Senior Associate of Aquaculture Innovation at Tides Canada. Previously, through the SOS Marine Conservation Foundation, Catherine helped to develop business-oriented solutions to the negative impacts of open net finfish aquaculture and a strategy to build a sustainable aquaculture industry in BC. In her role at Tides Canada, she focuses on advancing aquaculture solutions that protect wild salmon and the marine environment. Catherine works in close collaboration with industry members, research institutions, environmental organizations, First Nations, and regulators to explore and advance the adoption of closed containment aquaculture systems as a means to foster the environmental protection of wild salmon while providing for economic development, particularly in BC’s coastal communities.
Catherine holds a Bachelor of Laws and Master of Business Administration from the University of Calgary, and is a Fellow and Life member of the Certified General Accountant’s Association. Her experience includes practicing environmental, regulatory, and administrative law in Alberta and the Canada’s North. In honour of the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CGA designation, Catherine was chosen by CGA Canada as one of the 100 CGAs who have made an outstanding contribution to their communities and the lives of others. She is a currently a member of Board of CPA Canada, formed to unify the Canadian accounting profession.
