Based in Vancouver, Shayla Walker is a Program Associate on the Strategic Grantmaking team working closely with our Western Canada Program Lead, Kim Hardy. Shayla supports the implementation of granting portfolios for multiple funders, grantees, regions, and strategies in western and northern Canada, and issues regarding Pacific Coast people and place, freshwater, indigenous resource stewardship, and food security. Shayla is involved in programmatic evaluation for our work in the Taku and BC Coast in addition to leading an internal systems design, implementation and management of the Strategic Grantmaking portal.
Prior to this role, Shayla provided executive assistant support to the Vice President of the Strategic Grantmaking team, and worked in the role of Donations and Programs Administrator on our Development team. She earned her Bachelor of Arts at UBC with a focus in Sociology, where she developed a deep awareness and concern about the impact humans have on the natural world. Shayla has a strong sense of environmental stewardship and when she is not running or walking the Seawall, she can be found working in the community participating in and organizing local beach and park clean ups.
