Project Coordinator, Binners’ Project (contractor position)

Binners’ Project, a project of Tides Canada, is a group of waste-pickers aided by support staff dedicated to improving their economic opportunities and reducing the stigma they face as informal recyclable collectors. The project is a charitable initiative with social enterprise programs that provides low-barrier employment and capacity building to over 150 marginalized individuals.

The Binner Needs Assessment (BNA) is a priority action of the Binners’ Project for 2019. This project was initiated by a team of skilled volunteers in Victoria and led by the Binners’ Project Director in Vancouver. It was recommended by Mayor Helps and is currently supported by Victoria Foundation’s funding and Our Place’s on the ground support.
Our intended outcomes are to:
1. Catalyze binning activity that benefits the local low-income community;
2. Build stronger networks and identify opportunities for collaboration and coordination for binners amongst inner city businesses, residents, funders, and other stakeholders;
3. Equip local individuals and networks with the tools, methods, processes and agency to advance identified solutions as a group.
