Sandy Houston joins Tides Canada board
Tides Canada today announced that Sandy Houston, President of Toronto’s Metcalf Foundation, has joined its board of directors.
“Sandy is widely respected across the country as a thought-leader and innovator in the charitable sector,” said Ross McMillan, President and CEO of Tides Canada. “Tides Canada will benefit from Sandy’s considerable philanthropic expertise and his depth of knowledge on major environmental and social issues.”
Over the last ten years, Sandy has steered the development of the Metcalf Foundation into a leading private foundation engaged in helping Canadians imagine and build a just, healthy and creative society. Prior to joining Metcalf, Sandy worked as a litigation lawyer before becoming a founding partner in Stitt Feld Handy Houston, Canada’s first law firm to focus predominately on alternative dispute resolution.
Sandy has also been instrumental in the establishment of a number of Canadian not-for-profits. He was the founding chair of the Friends of the Greenbelt Foundation, an arms-length, public foundation created by the Government of Ontario to support the environmental and agricultural integrity of province’s new Greenbelt. He is also a member of the board of the Philanthropic Foundations Canada, and serves as advisor to a number of charitable organizations, including Mowat Centre for Policy Innovation, Imagine Canada, the Ontario Not-for-Profit Network, the Literary Review of Canada and The Walrus.
Tides Canada provides innovative philanthropic, financial, and project management services for change makers – philanthropists, foundations, activists, and civil organizations. Its mission is to provide uncommon solutions for the common good by leading and supporting actions that foster a healthy environment and just Canadian society.
