Empowering people to make real, positive change in their lives, their communities, and their cities.
Diasporic Genius strives to be a catalyst for a creativity-powered, citizen-centred renaissance of civic engagement, joining people across cultures to drive community- and city-building. Our mission is to empower people to make real, positive change in their lives, their communities, and their cities by activating the power of the creative imagination and the still-untapped resource of diversity. Our work is centered on the power of stories—personal histories, cultural memories, and the creation of new stories—that bring people together in a spirit of creativity, exploration, and change.
Since October 2011, we have been working in the Toronto community of Thorncliffe Park, where we have held over 100 Story Circles; hosted arts-based classes; presented celebrations of food, art, and music called 7-Minute Feasts; produced and co-produced six community-wide festivals; and run a part-time Creativity Centre.
